Souvenir programme for the opening of the Royal Festival Hall in May 1951. This details the "Ceremonial opening and inaugural concerts" that took place.

Construction of the Festival Hall began in 1949 and it was opened in May 1951 in time for the opening of the South Bank Festival site. It does not specifically mention the Festival of Britain but it is referred to in several of the adverts and the introductory letter by Prime Minister Clement Attlee.

The programme sets down the various concerts that were to take place during the opening week. It gives photographs and notes on the principal musical celebrities who took part in the concerts and also programme notes on the music.

There are 16 pages of adverts for various companies, ranging from Jaeger and French Railways to Steinway and HMV. Several of the adverts include the Festival logo or features of the South Bank exhibition site.

The guide has 48 pages plus covers. Size 280 x 210mm with thin card covers. The covers are showing signs of wear, including a small, 5mm, tear but overall it is in very good condition.
