Bakelite razor blade sharpener

Blade in position

This gadget was intended for sharpening razor blades. Today a razor gets thrown away when the blade has become blunted, when this was made men would resharpen used blades, sometimes getting over 100 shaves from a blade.

It has a bakelite case that houses the sharpening mechanism. A blade was placed inside, the lid closed and the gadget pulled back and forth along the cord. There is nothing to state where it was made but these generally originated in Germany or Belgium from the 30's to the 60's. On the top of the case and inside are logos of three olympic type interlocking rings which presumably was the trademark of the maker.

Generally very good condition. Very small nick out of back just alongside hinge but this is very minor. Would benefit from a good polish but as usual I have left it virtually as found so that the buyer can get a feel for the age. Note blade is not included for safety.
